It’s the merriest time of the year and there are so many Christmas things to do in Zagreb to put on your list of festivities that would certainly get you in the Christmas spirit. Whether you channel your inner grinch or cheery elf during Zagreb’s most wonderful season, we’ve got you covered with activities.

Zagreb was voted the best Christmas market in Europe by European Best Destinations’ online poll three times in a row and awarded as the most beautifully decorated city. It has beaten o the likes of London, Vienna, Berlin, Stockholm, Strasbourg, Manchester, Brussels, and Nürnberg.

The award-winning market oers a variety of events that will satisfy even the most demanding visitors. Unique events, ice skating, live concerts, the sound of Christmas bells, the scent of gingerbread, mulled wine and various other delicacies make you forget everything else and enjoy all these wonderful things!

You better watch out, you better not cry…

Each edition of Advent in Zagreb brings some news, and this year is no exception. So 2019 has two main themes — Nutcrackers and Croatian Heritage, so there will be lots of nutcrackers sculptures set up throughout the city.

You better not pout, I’m telling you why…

On an opening day, the traditional lighting ceremony took place at the Zrinjevac park, and on the same day, the largest outdoor skating rink in this part of Europe opened in Tomislav square. The rink oers a large open skating space as well as a maze of dierent passageways to suit the needs of any skater. It has proven to be one of Advent in Zagreb’s most popular attractions.

Santa Clause is comin’ to town!

Gotta catch ‘em all! Father Christmas will be visiting and adding that extra bit of magic… Try to count every Santa you meet along the way, you will be surprised how many of them you’ll see. If you were good, don’t worry, those encounters won’t be awkward. 🙂

Many, many events folks!

A special gastronomic oer under the name Apetitlih is being prepared at Zrinjevac park. The concept, created in collaboration with the Gourmet Experience Croatia project, will introduce more than 20 traditional dishes.

Some stories never get old

The crib, the stall, the citizens of Bethlehem, the domestic animals, and the shepherds will take you at the time of Jesus’ birth and give this Advent a special atmosphere.

Classical music on balconies

From the most beautiful balconies in Zagreb, tunes performed by a brass band blower, bringing holiday joy to the colorful city streets. For those that enjoy nodding head along with the bass, there are plenty of other genres such as house, techno, R’n’B or even acoustic live gigs
